The life of an artist is defined by each moment his/her eyes, heart, mind, senses, and emotions are opened for embracing the experiences of living. As a result, joy, laughter, pain, longing, and misery become fodder for manifesting in one's chosen medium.

For Herman Williams 3rd, the experiences of living have been a cacophony of the strange, diverse, dangerous, challenging, and sublime. He learned early in life that the visions in one's mind, were merely blueprints for future actions.

His first sculpture (a 5th grade art project) was a wire boy on a bike, inspired by his desire and visions of ridding upon one. Years later he would open his own gallery; The H. J. Williams Gallery in Baltimore. The gallery was in many ways a cynical slap at the Baltimore art scene/culture of the 1980s.

After trying unsuccessfully to garner showings in local galleries and being told; "We'll have a group Black artists show during Black History Month,"he decided too strike out on his own, as an artist -- not a Black artist.

He created wire sculptures, small bronzes sculptures, and completed several commissions of bronze portrait bas-reliefs. These commissions included a bas-relief of President George H. W. Bush, as a gift to his son Neil Bush. Also John Pepper, President of Proctor and Gamble, and small coin bas-reliefs of the namesake for the Albemarle Foundation.

At the time he was also working on a novel, "A Hero In Hell", and as an advisor to Montel Williams, which led to a position on the nationally syndicated, Montel Williams Show. It took less than a year for Herman to rise from production assistant to one of the top rated Episode Producers in the business. He went on to become an executive producer twice and a co-host for a late-night show. He worked for entities such as Disney, Tribune, Comedy Central, and Universal.

But the need to create kept calling.

He left New York City, returning to his hometown, Baltimore to begin serious work on finishing a novel "Memoirs of An Extraterrestrial, the Negro Conundrum" under a pen name, H. P. Stanly. He also wanted to continue creating/researching the development of wire and bronze sculptures.

Herman has always been fascinated by the synergy between color, light, shadows, and the copper wire sculptures he creates. These multidimensional sculptures are like drawings in space and ideal for projecting shadows from external light sources.

The architectural prominence he created for the State of Maryland, is an example of applying theatrical gels to the wire structure for color.

But instead of relying on external light sources to bring his creations to life, Herman sought to design sculptures with light built in? To do so, would require innovations in techniques to bind paper & wire together, such as treating hand-made paper with epoxy resin, and then reshaping/sewing these onto the wire frames.

As you will see, the results he achieved melding one to the other are stunning, luxuriously glassy sculptures. These sculptures can be chandeliers (energy efficient LED), sconces, mobiles, and furniture that bring shadows, color and light to space.

Because the sculptures are made from copper wire, there is a subtle background energetic resonance emitted by the sculpture into the space as well.

So, after many years of searching, the solution to bringing light-weight, glassine, high-end sculptural lighting to the market is here.

Herman Williams 3rd is ready to serve the CUSTOM INTERIOR LIGHTING needs for clients in corporate, commercial, and home markets.
